This panel features law firm partners and associates and an in-house lawyer who will share their perspectives on putting your best foot forward as a summer associate and young lawyer.  They will discuss practical tips for building professional relationships, lessons learned in their careers, and how to find success as a new lawyer in a law firm or company.

Tina Q. Nguyen, Baker Botts L.L.P.

Tina Q. Nguyen represents plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in a variety of high-stakes, complex commercial matters. Her practice focuses on energy litigation, pension and ERISA matters, and real-estate defense.

Ms. Nguyen represents and advises energy clients on lease termination claims, royalty litigation, area of mutual interest provisions, and disputes arising from other oil and gas agreements. She also has extensive experience in pension and ERISA litigation, including defending class action claims of breach of fiduciary duties. Clients value Ms. Nguyen's ability to provide practical guidance based on her substantive legal experience and her skillful advocacy through trial and appeal.

Before joining Baker Botts, Ms. Nguyen was a law clerk to then Chief Judge Sidney A. Fitzwater of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Miles Indest, McGuireWoods LLP

A Texas-Louisiana litigator with an MBA, Miles enjoys helping companies protect their intellectual property and resolve high-stakes litigation. Miles has significant experience representing energy and technology companies in complex disputes involving contracts, environmental torts, and trade secret theft.

Miles prides himself on securing quick and efficient victories for his clients to prevent unfair competition or irreparable harm. He has secured and defeated injunctions related to oil and gas services, joint operating agreements, debt collections, security interests, foreclosures, confidentiality agreements, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, breach of fiduciary duty, and theft of trade secrets.

Miles also offers proactive guidance to companies regarding intellectual property and government investigations—counseling them on their relationships with competitors, partners, and customers, restrictive covenants with employees, and compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Regulation Fair Disclosure, and data breach notification laws.

Brittany Salup, Counsel, Chevron U.S.A. Inc.

Brittany Salup serves as Counsel on Chevron Upstream Law’s Litigation Management team. In this role, Brittany oversees a variety of litigation and emerging disputes in the Gulf of Mexico and across North America. Before joining Chevron in 2017, Brittany was a partner at a New Orleans law firm where she specialized in environmental tort and oil and gas litigation. Brittany holds a B.A. from Virginia Tech, and a J.D. from Tulane University Law School. She was also a member of IEL’s first Young Energy Professionals Leadership Class in 2018.

Elly Austin Vecchio, Phelps Dunbar LLP

Elly Vecchio's practice focuses on representation related to eminent domain, condemnation, and real property matters on behalf of governmental entities, pipeline companies, other private public-use condemning entities, and landowners. She has advised clients in connection with right-of-way acquisition, condemnation, and related issues starting at the early stages of a public use project through completion. Elly has experience with special commissioners hearings as well as traditional litigation.
