David J. Ribner, Partner in the National Security practice at O’Melveny & Myers, and Jennafer Watson, Director of Ethics & Compliance, Assistant General Counsel at Oxy, will deliver a webinar on U.S. economic sanctions affecting the global oil and gas industry. They will focus on how the U.S. Government uses economic sanctions as a foreign policy and national security tool with a focus on Russia and Venezuela, as well as effect for those engaged or contracted in shipping.

David J. Ribner is a Partner at O’Melveny & Myers LLP in Washington, DC. David’s practice focuses on counseling US and non-US clients on international trade and investment regulatory matters, including trade and anticorruption compliance. David has extensive experience securing national security clearance by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), having served as CFIUS counsel in transactions with investors spanning the globe and myriad industries. David also counsels clients on compliance with US economic sanctions, export controls, customs laws, and antiboycott regulations, as well as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and advises on the development and implementation of related corporate compliance programs. When potential violations of such laws arise, he conducts internal investigations and assists with responding to subpoenas and other information requests from the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

David is consistently recognized by Chambers USA with a ranking as a CFIUS expert and by Chambers Global as an “Up-and-Coming” CFIUS expert. He has also been recommended as a Rising Star for International Trade: CFIUS by The Legal 500 US and named to Global Competition Review, Foreign Investment Control’s “40 Under 40,” which recognizes the world’s top foreign investment lawyers under age 40. He graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2012 and was admitted to the Washington, DC and New York State Bar in 2013.

Jennafer Watson, Director of Ethics & Compliance, Assistant General Counsel, Oxy

Jennafer Watson is the Director of Ethics & Compliance and an Assistant General Counsel at Oxy. Oxy operates energy and chemical assets around the globe, including in the U.S., Middle East, Africa and Latin America. In this role, Jennafer is responsible for the company’s global ethics and compliance program that is designed to prevent fraud and conflicts of interest, as well as to prevent violations of anti-bribery, sanctions, import/export, human rights and antiboycott laws. Prior to joining Oxy, Jennafer was the Chief Compliance Officer for a drilling and construction services company with operations in North and South America, Australia, and Africa. As Chief Compliance Officer, Jennafer assisted the company in successfully resolving a four-year FCPA investigation with the U.S. DOJ and SEC. Previously, Jennafer was an associate in the white-collar defense and investigations practice group at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in Washington, D.C. Jennafer is a graduate of Kansas State University and American University, Washington College of Law.
