Critical Minerals: Energy Transition or Energy Security?


A successful transition to renewables or low carbon energy sources requires the extraction and development of numerous minerals and metals. The transition of energy sources can be hampered by the scarcity of these minerals, their location, and opposition to their extraction by activists or local communities.

This session will analyze supply and demand issues related to critical minerals, including looking at their location and perceptions regarding shortages. It will also analyze complexities of the value chain from mining to processing of these minerals. The session will also look at geopolitical issues related to critical minerals, including the opportunities and threats offered by host countries and countries seeking access such minerals. Finally, the session will review major M&A trends related to such minerals.
