Mr. Wheeler graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1981 with a BS in Business Administration. He began his career in 1981 with Shell Oil Company where he held various positions in the Land Department until his departure in 1997.
During his tenure at Shell, Mr. Wheeler worked on some of Shell’s cutting edge technology deepwater Gulf of Mexico projects including Mars, Ursa and Trioka. From 1997 until 2002, Mr. Wheeler held first the position of Land Manager and later Vice President, Land for Enterprise Oil Gulf of Mexico Inc. While at Enterprise, Mr. Wheeler was involved in the acquisition of Reading & Bates entire Gulf of Mexico position which included a large interest in the Boomvang Project. When Enterprise was purchased by Shell Oil Company in 2002, Mr. Wheeler returned to Shell as Project Manager.
In 2003, Mr. Wheeler became an initial partner and Vice President, Land for Marlin Energy, LLC concluding when Energy XXI Gulf Coast Inc. acquired the majority of Marlin’s assets in 2006. Mr. Wheeler was instrumental in various acquisitions which served as the foundation of Marlin’s asset base. In 2006, Mr. Wheeler was one of four founding members of Shoreline Energy LLC and held the position of VP, Land & Business Development through Shoreline’s entire existence, which ended with the restructuring in March 2017. During this time Mr. Wheeler participated in closing nearly a dozen oil and gas property acquisitions that led Shoreline to a peak of 9,000 barrels of oil equivalent of production.
Since March 2017, Mr. Wheeler held first the position of Vice President with the emerged company, Marquis Resources, LLC until January 2019 when he assumed his current position of General Manager. Through Mr. Wheeler’s 38 year career, he has developed an extensive network of industry contacts in the Gulf of Mexico offshore and coastal areas. Mr. Wheeler is a member of IPAA, LOGA, HAPL, NHAPL and PLANO.
